Vincent's Success
After more than 30 years as a Natural Gas Inspector/Civil inspector, Vincent did not have a new career in mind. That all changed when he was faced with a layoff due to the shortage of work in Alberta. Vincent found himself without a plan and losing hope in being able to find a new career at this stage in his life. After 10 months without success, Vincent came to the Calgary Career Hub for support.
“I felt motivated to keep moving forward after a long time and difficult changes, for myself and for my family.”
At Calgary Career Hub, Vincent and the team got to work identifying his barriers to employment. Having been in his previous role for such a long period, he did not have an updated resume and was unfamiliar with how to tackle the current job market. Through developing his Service Plan, the first goal was to help Vincent revamp his resume so that it effectively highlighted his top skills and marketed himself to employers with strong accomplishment statements.
“I had so many people working with me at Calgary Career Hub, they were all very nice and supportive in many ways!”
Attending workshops at Calgary Career Hub such as “Resumes That Get Read, Cover Letters and References, and Navigating the Gig Economy” the team worked with Vincent to develop his self marketing plan and refine his resume. At the same time, Vincent was also able to acquire skills training through Exposure Courses relevant to his work experience, including “Confined Space Awareness Training, Ground Disturbance, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, First Aid, and Loader Backhoe – Operator Safety”.
Combining his newly developed occupational certifications with his newly refined self-marketing and resume techniques, Vincent set out to secure a new role. In no time at all, Vincent was able to secure an interview and was the successful applicant for a Foreman position.
“I am grateful for a chance of a new career and new experiences! I really want to thank the whole Calgary Career Hub Team!”
