Latifat’s Success Story
When Latifat immigrated to Canada, she had little direct knowledge of Canadian culture and virtually no understanding of the job market. In the first few months of Latifat’s job searching she had little success. Being new to Canada, she had trouble preparing a resume that connected with local employers and found expectations very different from her home country.
After months of unsuccessful job searching, Latifat became disappointed and was losing motivation to continue looking for the right job. That is when Latifa visited Calgary Career Hub. The team got right to work with Latifat identifying the skills she felt she lacked and how the team could best approach her job search. She attended a variety of workshops to help improve her resume and interviewing skills. Latifat was encouraged to present her skills and qualifications more confidently through one-on-one practice interviews, for both face-to-face and video interviews. She responded quickly with customized resumes when the team sent her leads for positions that fit her skillset and then helped her connect with employers.
Even in the worst snowstorms, Latifat would take transit to visit the Centre – she was often the first client to arrive and the last to leave. She continued to work hard, Latifat attended all the available workshops and always participated by asking questions. Committed to her training, she was always open to feedback. She actively applied what she was learning at the Career Hub.
Her hard work paid off, and after only a few months of training Latifat secured a full-time position as a contact centre agent in the financial services industry!
