Success Stories - Simeon and Jennifer

Simeon and Jennifer moved to Calgary from Nigeria in May 2024. They relocated to Canada hoping to find a better future and more opportunities. Upon arrival, they both immediately began their employment journey. However, as they were unfamiliar with the Canadian job market, they struggled to showcase their transferrable skills and work experience. After two months of job searching, they decided to reach out to Calgary Career Hub for support.

Both Jennifer and Simeon followed a 12-week plan with Calgary Career Hub where they received support through workshops and 1-1 support. The couple were able to develop an effective resume and cover letter, access employer and recruiter connections that included job leads and referrals and had the opportunity to practice interview skills. They were both taught about transferrable skills, as well as job search techniques that would help them in their employment journey. They also learned more about the Canadian job market, and how to market their work experience to employers.

Simeon and Jennifer’s story is one of determination and resilience as they persevered while facing a new job market. Their commitment to learning more about how they can market themselves more efficiently has proved successful as they are both currently employed. Simeon also successfully completed his Level 1 certificate in the Alberta insurance industry and feels proud of his achievement.
