Rena's Story

Rena came to Calgary Career Hub (CCH) for employment assistance in the start of June 2021. She was laid off her previous job due to the pandemic and she’d been unemployed for eight months. CCH assigned a Career Advisor to support Rena; and together they identified some of her primary challenges to finding employment.

Building targeted resumes and cover letters, using successful interview techniques, and performing LinkedIn outreach were some of her main roadblocks that were recognized and supported by the Calgary Career Hub team. Rena attended various workshops offered by CCH that trained her to write ATS friendly resumes and cover letters.

She also learned how to effectively use LinkedIn tools, reference building strategies, and interview techniques.

Rena shares, “Most useful for me was participating in all the workshops offered at Calgary Career Hub, they helped improve my interview skills and built my confidence overall.”

Rena was assisted one-on-one by her Career Advisor to discuss job leads and networking strategies. She also engaged in mock interviews with her Career Advisor which led her to marketing herself with confidence. Effective Communication, Change Management and Wellness Hub were some of the other workshops she attended to boost her portfolio of skills.

“I appreciate the support, patience and encouragement offered by CCH to overcome my challenges and be optimistic,” says Rena.

After actively engaging in services, participating in workshops, attending one-on-one sessions, and reaching out for support when needed; Rena successfully got a full-time contractual position in her field! She’s employed as a Cost Administrator, with a salary package that meets her expectations.

Congratulations Rena!
