Corie's Success Story

Corie was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had been looking for work since January 2021. When she began service with Calgary Career Hub in May 2021, Corie needed support creating an ATS-friendly resume that would highlight her transferable skills and accomplishments, tailoring her applications to specific job postings.

At Calgary Career Hub, one-on-one appointments and workshops helped Corie get the skills she needed to create a strong resume and cover letter. Her confidence and ability to self-market her skills grew through workshops and one-on-one interview preparation appointments.

Corie says, “I have learned that any problem is solvable. It sometimes takes a lot to come to others for help when you are struggling. However, the support is invaluable, and you need to be willing and ready to accept it.”

Corie also attended workshops such as Change Management, Effective Communication, Networking and Informational Interviews, HERO Job Search and LinkedIn Skills. She worked one-on-one with her Career Advisor, a Job Developer and an Information Services Coordinator on preparation and lead development.

“I became more confident in my own abilities and adopted the mindset of positive thinking. I also gained resilience, says Corie. “I set out to find a position tailored to my passions and interests working in the non-profit sector. I was successful in achieving this goal.”

Corie is now employed as a Contact Centre Specialist, where she puts her excellent customer service skills to use while she builds on her experience in the nonprofit or charitable setting.

“I have transitioned into a position that provides more job security and stability. I enjoy my work and overall feel much happier and optimistic. When I compare what my outlook was like being unemployed during the early days of the pandemic to now, the difference is like night and day. I feel more confident in the belief that I can take on any obstacle.”

Congratulations Corie!
