Nancy's Success Story

Nancy had been unemployed for a month when she came to Calgary Career Hub in November 2021. Nancy had worked abroad, but she was new to Calgary and looking for her first job in Canada and networking was a challenge in a new city.

“Calgary Career Hub gave me self-confidence and a sense of achievement during the difficult time of moving into a new city and adjusting to a new life,” says Nancy.

In addition to help with networking in Calgary, Nancy needed some help to improve her resume and cover letter, as well as job search and interview skills for a new market.

A Job Developer met Nancy and saw her positive qualities and determination. Together, they worked on building Nancy’s confidence and brainstormed to find a career path to match her skills and goals.

Nancy was enrolled in Calgary Career Hub’s workshops for resumes, cover letters and references, self-marketing, networking and informational interviews, and change management. She also practiced her interview skills and worked one-on-one with a Career Advisor to improve her skills.

“I loved having a Career Advisor that shared her time and knowledge with me generously,” says Nancy. “The meetings gave me the chance to think out loud with someone who has my best interest at heart to figure out the steps I need to take and how to make it after arriving in Calgary. The workshops helped me upgrade my resume, my skills and gave me the experience I needed for future interviews, job applications and what employers are looking for.”

Nancy’s Job Developer connected her with a recruiter and helped her land her first job with The City of Calgary.

Nancy says, “Thanks to the support CCH gave me, I was able to get a temporary placement with the City of Calgary as my first position! That opportunity proved priceless, my first working experience in Calgary was with a great institution that taught me so many great things while working with amazing professionals. Now I have a great Canadian experience on my resume!”
