Nada's Success Story

Nada first attended the Calgary Hub on June 22, 2020. She had been unemployed for three years as she followed her husband to work abroad. When she returned to Canada, after several years, she did not have any work experience in her field. Nada found her major barrier to find employment was her lack of work experience after graduation. Therefore, she had to learn how to write a cover letter and tailor a resume to really highlight her specific skill set and qualifications. Nada’s goals were centered around understanding her job target and approach, reviewing her resume and cover letter, and working on her networking and job search strategies.

Nada attended several workshops that focused on networking, information interviews, resume and cover letter writing, self-marketing, job search, career exploration, interview skills, LinkedIn, and effective communications. She also attended nine one-one-one sessions with a Career Advisor to sharpen her interview skills. Nada shared, “After following the advice that was given to me from my Career Advisor and the workshops, I was lucky to get 3 individual interviews and eventually got hired to work as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas in San Antonio.” Nada states she was successful because she was committed, enthusiastic and wanted to learn. She used all the advice from the services at Calgary Career Hub and went above and beyond to ensure her success.
