Kim's Success Story

Kim spent the past 10 years of her working career in a corporate office environment. When her most recent contract ended in mid-2021, Kim knew she wanted to make a career change. Kim was determined to find more purpose and passion in her work, focusing on social work practice or working with a non-profit organization with a goal of helping people. However, Kim quickly discovered that transitioning to a new career was challenging and her confidence in her abilities dipped. She made the first step to success by coming to Calgary Career Hub.

“At first, I felt I was not valuable enough to help anyone, but with the support from Calgary Career Hub staff, I found my true calling. I realized that with both my soft and tech skills, I can work within non-profit housing and return to where my passion truly is.”

Calgary Career Hub worked with Kim to develop a service plan, set goals, and identify what types of roles would fit her existing experience and employment objectives. Once Kim identified her job target, her Career Advisor helped her improve her resume, tailoring it to specific job postings and ensuring it was ATS-friendly. In addition to attending various workshops, Kim also met with her Career Advisor to discuss job search and networking strategies. They worked to improve her LinkedIn profile and conducted mock interviews to prepare and improve her interview skills. Kim also received job leads and support from a Calgary Career Hub Job Developer.

“The facilitators were all passionate about what they were teaching, and I learned some skills and techniques I had not done before. The Self-Marketing Workshop especially changed how I approached my job search. After this workshop, I had three interviews within a two-week timeframe, one tentative offer and one firm offer – just from participating in the process and listening to the experts.”

Kim actively engaged in service, participating in workshops and attending scheduled appointments. Within two months, she found part-time work with a non-profit housing society that aligned with her core values, skills and work ethic. She continues to enjoy her work.

“I truly believe that without the support and guidance, and the workshops offered by Calgary Career Hub, I would not have found employment in my field of choice or had the opportunity to be noticed and interviewed for a career-changing position.

Congratulations Kim!
