Guindra's Story
Guindra moved to Canada in 2014 and worked from home as a caregiver for her grandchildren for several years before looking for employment outside the home. She looked for work on her own for over a year before seeking out assistance from Calgary Career Hub in July 2021.
Without relevant Canadian work experience or certification, and a significant employment gap, Guindra found it challenging to apply and make it to the interview stage. She needed assistance with her resume and cover letter to help showcase her transferable skills and clarify her gap in employment.
“You are in capable hands when you decide to join Calgary Career Hub for your job search,” says Guindra. “They will never give up on you for as long as you also don’t give up on yourself. Trust them to work in your best interest. Work with them to the best of your ability. And all of that will help you achieve the goal of finding work.”
Guindra attended several Calgary Career Hub workshops including Resumes That Get Read, Cover Letters and References, Networking and Informational Interviews, and Interview Skills. She worked one-on-one with her Career Advisor to discuss job search strategies and leads.
“I learned how to build resumes that are tailor fitted to the job posting and make unique cover letters, says Guindra. “Since I was out of work for a long time, all the workshops I attended helped in building back my confidence in looking for work.”
Guindra also received help from a Job Developer who provided additional support with job leads and employer connections. It was through one of these connections that Guindra found her new job. With support from Calgary Career Hub, Guindra is now working full-time as a Sale Specialist in the tech sector. Congratulations, Guindra!
“My achievements have made a big difference in my life because I will start to earn a living for myself again, after being a dependent since I came to Canada. Hopefully that will set me on a path to being fully independent and saving for the future.”
