Janki's Success Story

Janki had moved to Canada from Mumbai in hopes of finding a stable job in the career she excelled in. She wanted a better work/life balance as she was used to working seven days a week, so she left to find an equally challenging role without the demanding schedule. She began job hunting as soon as she arrived and, after two months, although she had some interviews, they were not successful.

“I had people telling me to get a survival job and I blocked them out. I pushed myself harder to get the jobI wanted," says Janki

As an immigrant, Janki was new to Calgary and unsure of the networking needed to find a job. She was also under pressure to find work due to lack of income. Janki had planned to return to Mumbai within a month if she couldn’t find work. She was directed to Calgary Career Hub and met with her Career Advisor in late 2022. Together they discussed creative ways to network including coming up with a QR code that people could scan with their phone, and it would send them directly to her LinkedIn profile or her website.

“I know I’ve taken my first step on my ladder to success. Having the first step is the key.”

Janki worked hard and attended workshops like resume and cover letter support, LinkedIn training and more offered through Calgary Career Hub. She even followed up on networking opportunities that were shared by her Career Advisor which helped lead to establishing positive contacts in the city. Thanks to the help of Calgary Career Hub, Janki is now fully employed as a Marketing Coordinator.

“I got a job within 3 months of coming to Canada!” says Janki. "Having someone to talk to about my struggles about finding a job. Knowing there’s someone who understands where you’re coming from. Not just telling you what you should do better."
