Carmen's Success Story

Carmen was unemployed for a year and a half before coming to Calgary Career Hub (CCH). She was laid off from work and re-entering the job market after working for 31 years with her previous employer. One day while scrolling through Facebook, Carmen saw a post from CCH on her feed. She enrolled in the service and found out that she needed help making her resume and cover letter ATS-friendly to stand out in today’s job market.

“I really enjoyed the resume writing workshop. I learned about a lot of things that have changed. It had been quite some time since I had to do this, so it was very helpful,” says Carmen.

At CCH, Carmen was offered workshops for resumes, cover letters, and reference writing, along with networking, self-marketing, and communication techniques. She also learned about search techniques on LinkedIn and received one-on-one guidance for job leads and mock interviews. After training, she worked with her Career Advisor to tailor her resume to the job postings that interested her.

“I am so glad I enrolled in the program with Calgary Career Hub. I learned so many new job tips and techniques; and how to use them to get the right job,” says Carmen.

Carmen was hired in a role and at a company of her choice and now works there full-time. The most exciting thing about this story is that the tools Carmen used come at no cost and are available to everyone.

Carmen says, “Looking for a job has changed tremendously now, attending career workshops, learning about personal skills and the interview process made all the difference for me. ”It was very helpful,” says Carmen.
