Shishir's Story

Shishir began service with Calgary Career Hub in July 2020. A newcomer to Canada, Shishir had been looking for work for over four months when he first contacted Calgary Career Hub.

With no previous Canadian work experience, Shishir needed assistance tailoring his resume to job postings, building his local network and connecting to employers. One-on-one appointments and the workshops helped him gain the knowledge to confidently create tailored applications. Shishir also built his network and employer connections through workshops, one-on-one coaching and Job Developer support.

“I never felt alone in my job search. They were always available for support. I knew whatever necessary support I asked for would be given at the earliest opportunity,” says Shishir. Calgary Career Hub workshops included Cover Letters and References, Effective Communication, LinkedIn for the Professional Job Seeker, Networking and Informational Interviews, Career Exploration with Assessments, Interview Skills Part 1 & Part 2, and Change Management. Shishir worked one-on-one with his Career Advisor on his resume, with an Information Services Coordinator on interview preparation, and with a Job Developer to discuss employment opportunities.

“Activities like Wants-Needs Assessment, Detailed Job Log, Employer Targets, Job Targets really helped me to pin-point the kind of roles I am interested in, determine the employer requirements and laser-focus my approach to the job search,” says Shishir.

Shishir actively engaged in service; participating in workshops, attending scheduled appointments to discuss job search updates, questions and leads, and reaching out for additional support via email when he needed resume feedback. From a job lead sent by a Calgary Career Hub Job Developer, Shishir found a full-time position as Sales Specialist that matched his job target.
