Virtual Career Fairs
Career fairs can help you find a job, but they work a bit differently than traditional in-person events.
Career Fairs used to be a great place for candidates to discover new companies. Then the pandemic happened, and this form of recruiting became too risky. But career fairs did not go away altogether. Like many other types of events, they went virtual. These fairs can help you find a job, but they now work a bit differently than traditional in-person events.
While technology makes career fairs still possible, it changes how they work. At a traditional career fair, candidates can walk in and meet with a variety of companies, stopping by booths to learn about the employer. With virtual fairs, however, there is no open ‘walk-in’. But one benefit of virtual career fairs is that candidates and employers save time.
Here is how they work now:
Candidates must register in advance with the Career Fair in order to book time with a recruiter. Usually this means logging into an online forum on the day of event to schedule a time slot. Then attendance will be confirmed, and candidates wait in a virtual lobby until their scheduled time. There will be a moderator keeping things organized, and the moderator will let you into breakout rooms with the recruiter you choose.
