Is your Job Offer Legit? How to spot a Job Offer Scam.

Before you accept a job offer, take these simple steps to protect yourself:

  • Do an online search. Look up the name of the company or the person who’s hiring you, plus the words “scam,” “review,” or “complaint.” If it is a scam, you might find out they’ve also scammed other people.

  • Never accept a job offer immediately: Always take some time to think about it, even if you are sure you will accept. Let the employer know you are considering the offer closely, but need a day or two to review and/or speak to your family about it. This will give you vital time to think about the offer and do some research.

  • Talk to someone you trust. Describe the offer to them. What do they think?

  • Don't pay for the promise of a job. Legitimate employers, including the federal government, will never ask you to pay to get a job. Anyone who does is a scammer.

  • Never bank on a “cleared” cheque. No legitimate potential employer will ever send you a cheque and then tell you to send back part of the money, or buy gift cards with it. That’s a fake cheque scam. It will bounce, and the bank will want you to repay the amount.

This bears repeating : Familiarize yourself with the warning signs and protect yourself during all stages of your job your search. Check out the websites below:
