Accomplishment Statements
Accomplishment statements are sentences that go beyond simply stating what you did. These are sentences that capture the actions you took and the results that came from them. These simple statements should be set up as bullet points on your resume and serve as proof of the value you will bring to a role.
Hiring Managers and Recruiters understand that 20 people with very similar work experience and education are going to work many different ways. When writing your resume, put in the extra work to create impactful accomplishment statements that will demonstrate ‘how’ you will use your experience and education to add value to their company.
Here is a formula to help you create your tasks or duties as accomplishments:
action verb(s) + skill and/or task(s) = result(s)
Example: Created, implemented and maintained an ordering system resulting in a 50 % reduction in monthly shipping costs.
Note: adding quantifiable measures (#, $ or %) to your result creates even greater impact, so describe your experience using quantifiable terms whenever you can. It won’t be possible in every case, but the more you can the better!
