Susan's Story
Payroll Administrator
Susan had been unemployed for over a month due to the closure of the company she had been working for. After trying to look for new employment she decided to access services with Calgary Career Hub.
Susan felt that her primary barrier to employment was that she had never needed to search for employment in over 9 years. She was feeling quite unsure of how to best approach her new job search, so she had signed up for email alerts with an online job search website, Indeed. Susan soon became overwhelmed by the number of job postings available and became frustrated because after applying to several positions she wasn’t hearing back from any. Susan soon became self- conscious about her resume and felt like she needed to get some feedback and advice on how to better her resume and her job search abilities. Due to a lack of confidence and job search troubles, Susan sought out the help of CCH.
What made Susan a triumph was her eagerness to learn about the job search process. She took initiative and worked closely with her Job Developer, who had sent her links to job postings which put her forward for positions with their employer contacts. Her Career Advisor and the Workshop Facilitator worked together with her to improve her resume and cover letter. They helped Susan craft accomplishment statements that could be added to her resume and to format her resume so that it was ATS friendly. In no time Susan’s confidence increased as she acquired new skills at CCH.
When asked about what she appreciated the most about Calgary Career Hub, Susan stated:
“Spending time here kept me motivated to go out and look for work. ‘I have a workshop today’ gives you a reason to get up. There were lots of resources available for me”.
Susan would say she is a success because her hard work resulted in 3 job offers, one of which she took as a Payroll Administrator.
