The Service

What sort of support can I access?

The support you access depends on your career situation. We work with you to understand your ambitions and help you find your next job. Support may include one-to-one coaching; online workshops and access to a range of ‘self-serve’ tools through our Virtual Resource Room, such as resources, tips and videos.

How does one-to-one coaching work?

We are currently delivering online and telephone one-to-one coaching, due to Covid-19 physical distancing requirements. The coaching helps you refine your career goals, learn about other available support and help you sell your skills to employers.

We understand that one-to-one coaching might not be right for you. You may already have the right skills and experience to move into a job or prefer to access our Virtual Resource Room.

What types of workshops do you deliver?

We have created a series of facilitator led online workshops to provide you with the tools you need to find work. The workshops have been designed to be easy to access and follow. They will equip you with practical knowledge and job search skills right for the Calgary labor market. Our workshops cover a range of topics including:

  • How to Improve Your Resume

  • Job Interview Techniques

  • Using LinkedIn Effectively

  • HERO Workshops

  • Networking and Self-Marketing.

How does the Virtual Resource Room work?

You can use our Virtual Resource Room to access a range of invaluable resources, tips and videos that will help you with your job search. You can access them whenever it suits you, choose the resources that are right for you, and work through them at your own pace.

Our resources include guides exploring career planning, resume writing and interview skills. You can also schedule an appointment with our Resource Room Staff to discuss specific aspects of your job search requirements.

Can you help me with career planning?

Yes, we can! Having a clear goal in mind when preparing for your job search is very important. It’s important to make sure you understand your career options and what you need to do to reach your goal. Contact us to learn how.

Can you help me with job specific training and qualifications?

We are able to provide funding for certain types of training, depending on your situation. If you’ve got the right skills and just need a particular piece of training, for example ProServe or Forklift Training, to meet the requirements of a job then we can support you. We can only support training courses that are no longer than two weeks long full time, or 6 weeks long part time. All training courses must lead directly to an employment offer or have been requested by an employer when a job offer is made.

I have been laid off and cannot find work in my field, can you help me find a job in another field?

Yes. We help you identify the skills you have that can be transferred into other fields, and then help you identify jobs that would be a good fit for you. We also have access to up-to-date labor market information that will give you the inside track on who is hiring now.

How often will I need to work with Calgary Career Hub staff?

Everyone is different and it will depend on the type of support you need. Once you’ve registered, we’ll agree a schedule of appointments with you. On average we expect that you’ll communicate with us once a week. The Calgary Career Hub is currently accessible online to support you through this unprecedented time. You can speak to your Career Advisor via email, phone and Microsoft Teams.

What is the difference between Calgary Career Hub and a recruitment agency?

A recruitment agency works directly with employers to find applicants suitable for their job openings. We are not hired by employers to help them fill their job vacancies.

Calgary Career Hub is an employment service designed to support you to find employment yourself. We have built employer connections throughout the Calgary area to learn about their staffing needs and can help you find the hidden jobs that haven’t been advertised.
